Jodie Foster Talks "Nim’s Island" on Leno
March 31, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Jodie Foster was on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno tonight, talking about her upcoming movie, Nim’s Island, hitting theaters this Friday, April 4, 2008. It’s about a young girl (Abigail Breslin), who inhabits an isolated island with her scientist father (Gerard Butler) and communicates with a reclusive author of the novel she’s reading. Chaos ensues when the girl’s dad goes missing.
Does Jodie look better than ever or what? I’m glad to see her do a family flick after a few years of dark movies. She said this is the first movie her two kids will see in the theater.

Steel Yourself: Actor’s Strike Likely
March 31, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Oh, George (Clooney, that is), looks like your desperate plea in February to avert an actor’s strike hasn’t really helped the situation.
Despite the suave one’s attempts at a liaison — along with fellow Oscar winners Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep — the two Hollywood unions representing performers suddenly split this weekend. It came as a shock to those hoping for a meeting of the minds.

Superhero Movie: Review & Trailer
March 31, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Movie: Superhero Movie | In Theaters: | March 28, 2008 |
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual content, comic violence, drug references, and language. | Gecko Rating: |
If you’re a teenaged boy — or have one in the house — Superhero Movie might enter your life at some point. It’s one of those goofy, boy-humor movies with plenty of crude humor — including an opening scene with various animals and birds humping a person all at the same time, and a fart scene that goes on for several minutes.
Like Epic Movie and Date Movie, Superhero Movie spoofs other movies in that genre, including Spider-Man, X-Men, Superman, Batman, Fantastic Four, and so on and so forth.
Rick Riker (Drake Bell) is an awkward high schooler mooning over a blonde classmate, Jill (Sara Paxton). When he’s bitten by a genetically engineered dragonfly, he’s transformed into a superhero…well, sort of…

Is Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire becoming the comic book/sci-fi go-to guy?
Now he’s chasing another comic book flick, the sci-fi adventure Afterburn, a new series from Canadian publisher Red 5 Comics. Maguire is planning a big-screen adaptation, along with Neal Moritz, producer of The Fast and The Furious. No writer is attached yet.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, the series follows treasure hunters who seek items like the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and England’s Crown Jewels while battling rival hunters, mutants and pirates.

New TV Spot: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"
March 30, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
We’ve been getting bits and pieces of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, set to hit theaters May 22, 2008. Now we can add a new TV spot, just released by Paramount Pictures.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, the action-adventure flick stars Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone, Karen Allen, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent. I think I’m most excited about seeing Karen Allen’s sassy self again - she’s 56 now.
Writer George Lucas is concerned that Indy fans may have built up unrealistic expectations (Who, me?…

"The Ruins" Preview, Trailer and Stills
March 29, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
“The Ruins” hits theaters April 4, 2008 (next Friday!), and it looks awesomely scary. Based on the Scott Smith novel, it centers on a group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a tragic turn when they accompany a fellow tourist on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle. <insert creepy music here> Of course, something evil lurks among the ruins.
Directed by Carter Smith and written by Scott Smith, The Ruins stars Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsey, Jena Malone, Shawn Ashmore, and Joe Anderson. It’s rated R for strong violence and gruesome images, language, some sexuality and nudity. Sure, it’s from Dreamworks Pictures, but you didn’t really expect talking pigs, did you?
