A Prairie Home Companion

My husband and I just watched "A Prairie Home Companion" tonight and were quite disappointed. My husband grew up listening to the radio show that the movie was based on so he was just expecting more… He felt that the plot was quite contrived. Given that "A Prairie Home Companion" is a program on public radio it just doesn’t make any sense that someone could buy out the show and shut it down.

For those not familiar with the show, don’t bother seeing this movie, you’ll just get lost and bored like I did. For those of you familiar with it though you’ll find many of the characters and songs familiar but the way in which they played out some of the fictional characters really didn’t add much. Lindsay Lohan actually detracted from the movie and her character seemed out of place and irrelevant. Garrison Keillor on the other hand was his humorous self but he DEFINITELY has a face for radio. Meryl Streep sings in this movie and isn’t half bad. She should give some tips to Lohan who sucked!

In short, don’t rent this movie unless you are a die hard fan of the radio show, but when you do rent it don’t expect too much. "A Prairie Home Companion" belongs on the radio.
