Abba to Attend French Premiere of "Mamma Mia!"
Former Abba members turned executive producers Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus will join Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd on Friday for the opening night of the 34th Deauville Festival of American Cinema.
The hit musical’s French premiere will also be attended by writer Catherine Johnson and producer Judy Craymer, but none of the film’s cast will be in the Normandy coastal resort.
No word on whether this will be the sing-along version announced a few weeks ago. That sounds fun, and I know at least one local theater in my hometown is running it. I’ll be there.
More after the jump…
Other stars attending the festival, which runs through Sept. 14, include Samuel L. Jackson, due in town with director Neil Labute for Lakeview Terrace, Kevin Spacey, accompanying Jay Roach’s HBO election drama Recount, and Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris, presenting Appaloosa.
Harris will receive one of several tributes during the festival and Deauville will honor Spike Lee, in town for the French premiere of “Miracle at St. Anna.” Parker Posey and director Charles Burnett will also be honored by the fest. Great opportunity to hang out in France and see some great films.
