Actors Won’t Cross Picket Lines For Golden Globes

by Jeanne on January 5th, 2008

The Screen Actors Guild announced on Friday that almost all SAG members are refusing to cross striking writers’ picket lines at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards.

Award nominees such as Julia Roberts and Johnny Depp would be key draws for audiences of the film and television honors on January 13, 2008.  Without the big stars, it is unclear whether the Golden Globes will air as scheduled.

"After considerable outreach to Golden Globe actor nominees and their representatives over the past several weeks, there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA picket lines," SAG President Alan Rosenberg said.

There is some hope, however.  Hollywood Foreign Press Association president, Jorge Camara, is hoping an agreement can be reached by as early as Monday.

2 opinions for Actors Won’t Cross Picket Lines For Golden Globes

The writer’s strike was quite strategically timed. While I don’t really like everything being disrupted, I think the WGA is justified in their demands and networks/studios should step up and give them what they deserve. One year’s award show might suffer, but if that’s what it takes, so be it.

Agreed, Liz. It’s too bad but can’t we come to an agreement already?!?!
