"Bakugan" Heads to Big Screen
“Bakugan Battle Brawlers” is one of the latest Japanese anime shows to hit the airwaves, currently running on the Cartoon Network six days a week (and doing well there, from what I hear). I asked my 14-year-old son about it, but he looked at me weirdly, so I guess he’s grown past it.
Anyway, “Bakugan” is headed to theaters now, with Universal and Stuber Prods. entering into a deal with toy company Spin Master. Like other anime shows, “Bakugan” is paired with a strategic game that uses metal cards and magnetic, spring-loaded miniature figures that transform from marble-like balls into toy monsters.
More after the jump…
The story revolves around creatures called Bakugan, with names like Pyrus Drago, Haos Tigrerra, Ventus Skyress, Subterra Gorem and Darkus Hydranoid that inform their character and power. They’re involved in a battle in a parallel dimension called Vestroia that spills into ours.
Any thoughts on this? I think it might be one of those niche movies that only appeals to a certain demographic. I just hope it’s not rated PG-13, or they might be rating it out of its target group.
