Frank Serpico - Blogging In the Woods

I’ve been reading New York Magazine’s 40th Anniversary Issue, and there’s a little story in there about Frank Serpico, the real-life Brooklyn-born cop who inspired 1973’s Serpico, starring Al Pacino.
Serpico (pictured), who exposed corruption among fellow NYPD officers during the late 60s, retired 36 years ago and lives off pension and disability payments. […]

Josh Brolin in Talks for "Jonah Hex"

Yet another DC comic character is coming to the big screen — Jonah Hex, a confederate cowboy, gunslinger and bounty hunter whose face is partly disfigured.
Do you get the idea that filmmakers are seriously running out of ideas, so they’re going into the comic book vault to make or remake every character […]

Scott Rudin Exits "The Reader"

Talk about your dysfunctional families. Only in this instance, the family is a film crew. Scott Rudin has walked away from The Reader and will no longer be involved with The Weinstein Co.’s December release.
He also won’t be credited as a producer on the period romantic-drama starring Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes.
Apparently, there’s been […]

"The Express" Preview & Trailer

My friend and her son saw this the other day, and she said it’s a great movie, but you’d better bring a whole box of Kleenex. A real tear-jerker!
It tells the true story of Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), who overcame many obstacles to get into Syracuse University’s football program. Under the guidance of […]

"Body of Lies" Preview & Trailer

Out of all the fall movies, this is the one I’m most looking forward to. It’s based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius’ 2007 novel about a CIA operative, Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio), who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan.

"The Tempest" Gathers Cast

The big-screen version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest continues to gather cast members. I don’t know about you, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a great Shakespearean film, and this one, written and directed by Julie Taymor, sounds pretty good.
Taymor has helmed Across the Universe, Frida, and Titus, and also helped […]

"Rear Window" - 2-Disc Special Edition

One of my favorite movies of all time, Rear Window, hits store and cyber shelves today in a 2-Disc Special Edition. The great Jimmy Stewart plays a professional photographer who suspects his neighbor of murdering his nagging wife. So he enlists his socialite girlfriend (Grace Kelly) to help investigate the suspicious chain of events. […]
