Which is better: Harry Potter or Twilight? Vote in my poll!
April 26, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Ok, so here’s a question I’ve been mulling over. I’m a big fan of the “Harry Potter” series, but let’s face facts. It’s coming to an end soon. We’ll have to move on. And I don’t know about you, but I need a new series to follow and “Twilight” just might be it.
But “Harry Potter” is SUCH a good series with great characters, an interesting story, and awesome effects. We’ve got both “New Moon” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” coming up this year. It’ll be interesting to see how they compare at the box office. Will “Twilight” measure up in the long run?

Twilight Musings: Should Breaking Dawn be made? Vote in our poll and discuss!
April 14, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
With the filming of “New Moon” in full swing in Vancouver, British Columbia – and on track for a Nov. 20, 2009 release - Twilight fans’ thoughts are turning to the next two movies.
“Eclipse,” the third movie in the “Twilight” saga, has already been confirmed by Summit Entertainment for release in North America on June 20, 2010. The fourth movie, “Breaking Dawn,” has been taken by Summit as an “optioned property,” which means that while they have the option to make the film, they haven’t given it the green light yet.
Obviously, there would be no problem with fans seeing the movie. That’s a given. But TwilightMania is speculating on a rumor that the issue would be with the character of Renesmee and the difficulty of casting a baby with a full set of teeth who grows at a rapid rate and can perform impossible feats.
I’m with TwilightMania in that this could be done well using CGI effects. Consider any of the “Harry Potter” or “Lord of the Rings” films, and you’ve got great examples of how it could work.
What say you, Film Gecko readers and Twilight fans? Could Summit create a believable film in “Breaking Dawn”? Should the movie be made, and if so, how? Vote in the poll and let your voice be heard in the comments below!

Who’s your favorite action movie star? – POLL
April 1, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I just posted about a poll conducted by Sky Movies on the top action movie stars of all time. Sigourney Weaver took the number one spot, which is very cool, considering she was the only female on the list!
So I thought we’d do our own poll here on Film Gecko. Be sure to vote, and tell me your reasoning and/or favorite action movie in the comments below. And if your favorite star isn’t there, feel free to add him or her to the list!

Will Rob Pattinson be around after Twilight? - POLL
March 25, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
“Can Rob Pattinson become a real movie star?” is the question being asked by The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Biz Blog.
It does make you think. Pattinson has grown to fame and become a household name because of the “Twilight” movies and his role as sultry vampire Edward Cullen. But will he continue to get good roles that don’t appeal to the teen/tween crowd?
His first major role, as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies, appealed to kids and adults of all ages. Then came, at about the same time, “Twilight” and “Little Ashes,” an R-rated movie in which he played artist Salvador Dali.
Next up is “New Moon,” in which he again plays vampire Edward Cullen, but he’s also close to signing for “Memoirs,” a dramatic movie about family tragedy.
Let’s face it. Playing Edward Cullen made Pattinson a teen sensation, but did it make him a brilliant actor? Will he be able to play these grown-up roles and become a great actor? Or is he already a great actor?

Which director do YOU want for "Eclipse"? - POLL
March 1, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
The directing aspect of the "Twilight" series has certainly taken a lot of twists and turns, hasn’t it? First, we had Catherine Hardwicke for "Twilight," and I think she did a great job.
A lot of us were surprised to learn that Hardwicke wouldn’t be directing the second movie, "New Moon." That task went to Chris Weitz, who promised fans that he’d do a good job. I believe him.
Now we’ve got several names swirling around for the third movie, "Eclipse." Drew Barrymore had been rumored, but now it looks like Chris Weitz‘ brother, Paul Weitz is the chosen one.
So if you were in charge of the world, who would YOU choose to direct "Eclipse"? Vote in the poll, and tell me your reasoning in the comments below!

Help me pick the Top Five Bloodiest Movies! - POLL
February 1, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
In my top five Mickey Rourke movies, I mentioned that “The Wrestler” included plenty of bloody scenes, as well as a few outright sex scenes. Emil called me out on it in the comments section, noting that just because a movie has sex and violence doesn’t make it bad. So true, Emil! Thanks for the reminder.
And thanks for my next Film Gecko Five - Bloodiest Movies. But I need your help, Geckos, because I don’t watch a lot of the blood and gore. What are your favorite bloody movies?
I’ll start with a poll, but feel free to add your own or tell me your favorites in the comments section. After a few days, I’ll pick the top five and run a Film Gecko Five. Let’s go! n

Megan Fox, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman Top 2009 Sexy List
December 29, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Fandango just came out with a list of the sexiest male and female stars. What’s fun is they divided the poll by men and women, and no surprise that they picked different people as the hottest!
For instance, 10% of females picked Johnny Depp as the sexiest man in 2009 movies, while 13% of males said Hugh Jackman deserves the honor.
They also polled for 2009’s most anticipated blockbusters. Women chose "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "New Moon," while men picked "Star Trek" and the "Transformers" sequel. I’m all over ALL of those flicks.
Check out the lists after the jump…
Brad Pitt: No More Fighting with Angie - POLL
December 10, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Brad Pitt says he’s given up fighting with his partner Angelina Jolie because he doesn’t want to waste time feeling angry at the woman he loves.
He says working on his new movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” made him more aware of his own mortality and that he’s determined to treasure every moment with his girlfriend and their kids.
He tells Rolling Stone magazine, “Angie and I do not fight any more. What occurred to me on this film, and also with the passing of her mother (actress Marcheline Bertrand in 2007), is that there’s going to come a time when I’m not going to get to be with this person any more. I’m not going to get to be with my children any more, or friends, people I love and respect. And so, if we have a flare-up, it evaporates now. I don’t want to waste time being angry at someone I love.”
I wonder if these words will come back to haunt him at some point, though. I’m still torn on whether these two will stay together or go the way of most Hollywood couples and split up. What do you think?
