Cruise in "Mission: Impossible 4"?

by Jane Boursaw on May 7th, 2008

“Mission: Impossible 4″ might be coming, with Tom Cruise attached to star, even though he and producing partner Paula Wagner were unceremoniously booted from Paramount Studios in August 2006.

You might remember the little couch-jumping episode on Oprah and the heated debate with The Today Show host Matt Lauer over antidepressant drugs. It was enough to send Paramount over the edge.

More after the jump…

Cruise and Wagner surfaced shortly thereafter as the new exec team running MGM’s United Artists, and all seems well with Viacom helm Sumner Redstone. He and Cruise dined together in March at a Beverly Hills restaurant, and Redstone, a Cruise critic in the past, is reporting that the actor “is in talks with Paramount.”

On Tuesday, Redstone told reporters in Seoul that he has no objection to Cruise starring in an “M:I 4,” and longtime Cruise attorney Bert Fields told The Hollywood Reporter that his client has no hard feelings.

“Tom wouldn’t foreclose on working for Paramount,” Fields said. “He will take any situation on its merits and decide whether the project is good or not. He certainly is not nursing any grievance against Paramount or Sumner Redstone.”

Still, don’t get your hopes up, because there’s no script or project green light for “M:I-4″ at this point. And really, do we really care? I liked the first movie, but the second and third went downhill. They’d have to really ramp up the production to get audiences excited again.
