Dakota Fanning to play Jane in "New Moon"?
How do you feel about Dakota Fanning playing Jane Volturi in "New Moon"? The Twilighters on Film Gecko sure have lots to say about it here and here.
Fanning’s reps confirmed today that the 14-year-old actress has been offered the role of Jane, a member of Italy’s evil Volturi, for the "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon."
No deal has yet been made, and Fanning has NOT met with "New Moon" director Chris Weitz nor Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the franchise. Rumors of the offer were swirling online before Fanning’s camp even received the official one. They’re scheduled to meet with Weitz and company next week.
"New Moon" is set to begin shooting in March in Toronto and Italy.
Your thoughts on this? Are you ok with Dakota Fanning onboard as Jane Volturi?

UM….i am pretty sure that Jane Volturi is described “short brown hair” and “dark skin” and “Italian”. i am a fan of Dakota, but I CAN NOT imagine her playing Jane Volturi. Are they sure they aren’t describing Tanya, from the Alaskan Coven???

I love Dakota Fanning, she’s consistently shown that she’s a fantastic actress. That being said, I really don’t see her as Jane. It’s hard to imagine.

I’m thinking she looks the part, but I’m not sure if she’ll be able to pull it off.. I think that they should check out Annasophia Robb.. She looks like what they are looking for, and she could bring out the dark part of the role also.. Just my opinion.

light brown hair and the skin is dark almost black
not to mention she is the same size as alice.she is later called a little girl when edward jumped at her but I still think that they should keep to the description in the book. im sorry but Dakota is not these things and I dont think that she can pull off the evil that jane truley is.

Personally I feel as if they are ruining to Twilight series by giving people like Dakota Fanning(no offense because I love her and think she is an amazing actress) and Vanessa Hudgens(I really hate her and think she can’t act to save he life) jobs in the Twilight series. We want unknown actors. Also Jane is described as having brown hair and most people I have talked to and seen reviews online they have pictured her darker.Meaner.I personally think they should have open casting calls. Not in a lot of places but like New York City,Los Angeles, Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville and a few other cities around the country.Maybe even a few in Italy.

jane is supposed to be short with short dark hair and a pretty face. there’s nothing about her skin, but it can’t be “almost black” twilight fan, because vampires skin is white. and i agree with her having a too innocent good girl look. i think they should use unknowns for jane and alec.

i might be mistaken but “almost black” was referring to her cloak, not her body. i’m curious, does the book ever say that jane is italian? i know the volturi live in italy- but i was under the impression that non-italian people could still join if they had useful powers.
either way, i don’t think dakota fanning should get the part. she is talented, she can be sweet and scary, but i agree with twilight girl- an unknown would be better. when i watched twilight, i saw bella, not kristen stewart. but in new moon, i think most people are going to see dakota fanning and very little jane- no matter how great her performance is.

As great of an actress Dakota Fanning I don’t think she would be able to pull Jane off, due to her Nice-Girl image! Also, I so agree that the movie would be better if there were more unknown actors in it.

I really like Dakota but I dont see her playing Jane in New Moon! The person I would definately pick for Jane is Danielle Chuchran.. look her up on IMDB, She is pretty but has very intense eyes.

I don’t think Dakota is the right person for the part either. I am an older fan of Twilight and I just cannot see someone of her age playing that part. Plus like others have said a person who is not so well known would be better. Yes she is a good actress but no she is not right for the part.

I la-la-love Dakota Fanning, for the way she can pull off this awesome, serious, partially sarcastic kind of character, for some of the roles given to her in the past. Although, if she mixes in with the Twilight cast, that’d be depressing, especially some of the cast are comeback actors and actresses and Dakota is well-known to people since ever.

hey Jamie, i went on the linked site and i agree, that girl is perfect for the part. Its funny cause thats exacly how i imagined her. i showed my friends and they totally agree. Dakota fanning is great but nothing compared to Jordana by the looks of it. Judging by the picture she is great with the camera..cant wait and it would be awesome to see her get the part.

Dakota can definitely pull off Jane I think. She has experience and she’s young which is how I imagined Jane. I highly doubt that the books describe her as ‘dark skinned’ because… she’s a vampire. Hello! Pale skin! And they can dye her hair a dark brown. Getting a lesser-known actor would be okay, but I mean Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were both kinda well-known, maybe not so much as Dakota Fanning, but this movie isn’t their first big break or anything.
Dakota will be awesome as Jane, IMHO.

The way they discribe Jane in the book is ” At first I thought it was a young boy. The newcomer was as tiny as Alice, with lank brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak- which was darker, almost black was slim and androgynous” That is how Jane is described in New Moon.

Dakota Fanning is not the perosn to play Jane. Jane has the sweet abnd angelic look whick Dakota has a hint of but, Jane is to have a seriously darkened side to her..Vanessa Anne Hudgens would just ruin the whole sequel for me and alot of others who came to Twilight for a tennage romance with a real meaning to it.. not some shitty high school romance with their geek and jock romance.. Twilight has real meaning to it..Soo what Im trying to say is DONT go and ruin the sequel which has only started yet worked soo hard on and deserves by getting actors like Vanessa Anne Hudgens (who cant act to save her life) and Dakota Fanning and the Jonas Brother in and make it a disney family movie.. It a beautiful gothic-like romance…Use unknown actors as this mobie will build their reputation and they will somehow bring more talent to this amazing sequel.. There! I have told yhoo everything that has been eating away at me since I heard yhoo were going to ruin the movie by disneyizing it…

i dont think dakota fanning is right for this role. she does great in other movies but twilight and new moon are different. i think these movies are so much better without really well known actors and actresses in them. it suits it better. i think once they start casting people that have been in like a million movies and everybody knows who they are, they have ruined it..

hopefully, the casting directors and whoever are reading this but please do not put dakota as jane because I, and heaps of my friends just don’t think she is up for it.

Sah-ree. Jane’s supposed to have an androgynous build, right? Her hair is brown, trimmed short. I’m not sure of her but the acting-hmm…She’ll have to prove it she has the guts to play Jane.

i guess clau is right, that she does have the right face but i really don’t think dakota would be the best choice for jane….there are better people out there, who look much more the part and are really good actors so i hope someone else gets it. Please, anyone but dakota..!

Hi, I am an old friend of Jordana’s and she would be so perfect for the role!
She looks just as I imagined jane, even before she told me she was going to go for the part and she is a great actress too…and she doesnt live in the usa she lives in Australia and she is so awesome so i think she WOULD have a good chance if dakota doesnt get in the way! She is JUST the right age for the part and looks just like Jane too. All the best for Jordana and if you agree with me then I will tell her what ya’ll all think!!

NO WAY! they can’t have already famous person playing jane! just the same way Vanessa H cant play Leah, and thank god she didn’t get it, no offense to those guys, but you dont want to be thinking about other movies while your trying to enjoy this one, there just too well known.

I think Dakota Fanning could do a good job at it. Anna Sophia Rob? I never thought of that, she could do that role well too though I think. I still think I would have been a really good Jane.

I disagree if dakota will be jane in newmoon cause she is BLONDE,NOT MYSTERIOUS,i think JODELLE FERLAND will be great as JANE volturi,cause she has dark hair,and more mysterious,and she’ll look great as jane..

I feel the same as the majority of the people on here. It’s hard to imagine Dakota as Jane, but I think with the right director and the right costumes and make-up, she might be able to pull it off.

*sigh* I didn’t read all the comments but I got tired of hearing that Jane had dark skin… here is an exact quote from the book on Jane’s looks.
“At first I thought it was a young boy. The newcomer was as tiny as Alice, with lank, pale brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak - which was darker, almost black - was slim and androgynous. But the face was too pretty for a boy. The wide-eyed, full-lipped face would make a Botticelli angel look like a gargoyle. Even allowing for the dull crimson irises.”
*sigh* I probably went overboard with the quote but… Nowhere does it say her skin is black… it’s describing the cloak, as in it’s darker than Felix’s and Demetri’s… also nowhere does it say she is Italian… Hope this clears up some confusion…
But I do agree with most the comments, she doesn’t look the way I pictured Jane… I favor Annasophia Robb… though I’ve never seen her act… she looks right for the part

First of all, I am a huge twilight fan, read every book even the first chapter of the 5th and seen the movie a million times….Dakota Fanning would be perfect!!! Second…why is everyone saying not to use famous ppl…hello um…their was all kinds of famous ppl in Twilight!! For ex..Kristen, Edward (surely you have watched Harry Potter) and a few more. I would much rather have ppl that knew what they were doing then some newbie that could screw the movies up. Anyway they are going to choose whoever they want and in my opinion they did a wonderful job with Twilight so get over it!!!!!!

Deffinitely NOT Dakota… We need a new face… An earlier comment said that if we used Dakota or some other well-known actress, we would see her, not Jane… We need an Unknown, yet good, actor for this role.

EWWWWW…..NOO DEF NOT. She’s not right at all. She doesn’t look the part, and her acting style is a bit dif. You might as well use Miley Cyrus, if your gonna use HER. Get someone a bit older, and a NEW FRESHER face.
