Dear Sean and Robin: Just do it already!
August 18, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
For my shameless celeb gossip post of the day (ok, there might be more than one), let’s talk about Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn getting divorced. Again!
According to People, Robin filed papers in Marin County, CA, stating that "both parties have already agreed to [shared] custody" and "the estranged couple have already agreed to division of all property.”
The sparring couple have two kids, 16-year-old Hopper Hack and 18-year-old Dylan Francis. The custody applies only to Hopper, though.
Really, it’s about time these two called it quits. They first filed for divorce back in 2007, but reconciled a few months later. Then, last April, Sean asked for a legal separation in court, but backed out of it in May. I don’t know if they’re trying to work things out for the kids or what, but it’s clear they’ve been having problems for a while.
Robin talked about the split in the September issue of More magazine, saying “I hit that crossroad a while ago. For Robin, the ‘I know what I don’t want’ was flashing neon lights … “I have no regrets. I, we, have two amazing children we raised together.”
Robin’s upcoming movies include “New York, I Love You,” an animated version of “A Christmas Carol,” and “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.” “There’s clarity of life now,” she says. “I think I’ve always been a follow-the-leader with my career, or maybe waiting for things to happen. Now I’m like, ‘I’m OK — I know the direction, whoever’s on board can go with me.”
I’ve always been a big fan of her work, dating back to “The Princess Bride” and “Forrest Gump.” I look forward to following Robin’s career into a bright future.
