DVD Giveaway: "The Presidents" from PBS Home Video

by Jane Boursaw on September 7th, 2008

One of the coolest political DVD sets to come out recently is The Presidents from PBS Home Video, which retails for anywhere from $110 on up. I’m offering it to the winner of this contest, Day 7 in Jane’s September Contest Slam. Is this the coolest contest slam on the Internet or what?!

“The Presidents” includes 2255 minutes on 14 discs, and covers Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909), Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921), FDR (1933-1945), Truman (1945-1953), The Kennedys (1961- 1963), LBJ (1963-1969), Nixon (1969-1974), Carter (1977-1981), Reagan (1981-1989) and George H.W. Bush (1989-1993).

The programs are thorough and balanced, and a great way to delve into the history of the U.S. Presidents. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this is one of the few sets that accurately portrays both sides of these complex and controversial leaders of the free world. I recommend watching it with your kids, especially as we head into this busy political season leading up to the Presidential election.

More after the jump…

Extras includes printable PDF Teacher’s Guides on all but the Wilson volume, which features 15 mini-docs on issues like the Black Vote, Suffrage, The NAACP, and The KKK. The Kennedys includes “JFK’s Hidden Life” with Robert Dallek, who wrote a biography on the President. Lots of other extras, as well.

THE GIVEAWAY: I have ONE DVD set of “THE PRESIDENTS” to give away. To enter the contest, simply leave a comment on this post by midnight on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. Be sure to include a valid email address. A winner will be drawn randomly. I’ll email the winner for their snail-mail address after the contest ends. Good luck!
