"Emo Boy" Heads to Big Screen
Vanguard Films has picked up rights to the cult comic book series “Emo Boy,” signing Kyle Newman to direct the adaptation and Stephen Edmond, the comic’s writer-artist, to pen the screenplay.
I’ll hold judgment on Newman as a director until I see “Fanboys,” his upcoming movie (Feb. 6) about some nerdy “Star Wars” fans. In this still from the movie, that’s Newman on the right.
“Emo Boy,” published by Slave Labor Graphics, is a satirical comic about the most self-dramatizing young man in the history of the world. So much so that he actually has “emo powers”!
From what I’ve heard, Vanguard is planning to use a lot of music in the movie, and hopes to make it in the vein of “Napoleon Dynamite,” “Harold and Maude” and “Zoolander.” Interesting combo!
