Gary’s Rumor Mill: Dogma Redux, More Zombies, Bond vs. Osama

And the rumours continue to fly…

• George A. Romero, the zombie guru behing Land of the Dead, says that a sequel is definitely being talked about, but contrary to web rumours, the release would be theatrical rather than direct to video. He doesn’t feel that Universal would be interested in skipping cinemas for the home market right away, but he did point out that he and his ‘partner’ are looking to get a series of direct-to-video zombie flick out to genre fans in the future.
• Alanis Morrissette might get the chance to reprise her role as God, since word on the web has it that Kevin Smith is toying with the idea of Dogma 2. The man himself addressed the issue on his personal site by stating:
  

  Back when I made DOGMA, I always maintained that another movie about religion wouldn’t be forthcoming, as DOGMA was the product of 28 years of religious and spiritual meditation, and I’d kinda shot my wad on the subject. Now? I think I might have more to say.

  Apparently Smith has had enough time to recharge for round two.

• Just say no to Arabs. I know that sounds inflammatory, but here’s the deal. Rumours are rampant that there is an urge to switch up the origin of Jame Bond’s evil nemesis in Casino Royale from the traditional Cold War foe Soviet Union, to an al-Qaeda-like Middle Eastern evil. I’m getting really flipping sick of M.E. terrorist movies. SICK, you hear me? And to shift Bond in that direction will make me boycott the movie altogether. Not that I matter in the big scheme of things, but it will make me feel better to protest against stupidity. Now, if Casino Royale is modelled after the very first Bond book, and Bond is a young agent fresh out of training, would it not make sense that the enemy would be the USSR? Seeing that this movie is a prequel? And the Cold War was in definite affect? Honestly…
