Jane’s Favorite Movie Tunes, Vol. 7
Today’s installment of Jane’s Favorite Movie Tunes comes from the classic Saturday Night Fever, released in theaters Dec. 16, 1977. John Travolta starred as Tony Manero, a young guy in Brooklyn who feels like his only chance to be somebody is as king of the disco.
I actually had a partner (you know who you are, Bob), and we’d practice the moves in our living rooms before heading out to a dance somewhere. Bob was a much better dancer than me, but I did my best to keep up. He looked like Travolta, too!
Plenty of great tunes in this movie, including The Trammps’ Disco Inferno and the classic opening scene with Travolta walking down the street to the beat of The Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive. This clip features Travolta dancing to The Bee Gees’ “You Should be Dancin’”. Funny how those moves seemed so awesome back then, but they’re kind of lame now, compared to some of the moves on So You Think You Can Dance.
