Just Like Heaven (Widescreen Edition)

When I rented Reese Witherspoon’s movie “Just Like Heaven” yesterday (oh the joys of being sick!) I was thinking it was going to be the kind of movie that women like myself end up crying their eyes out watching.  I was pleasantly surprised because I wasn’t really in the mood to be in tears AND sick!

The movie is about Reese Witherspoon’s character Elizabeth who’s a busy Doctor and doesn’t have time for love until she gets into a car accident and winds up as a ghost haunting her apartment which is rented out by the sexy David Abbot played by Mark Ruffalo.  There are lots of funny and cute scenes involving Elizabeth not knowing she’s dead and trying to spook David into leaving what she thinks is still her apartment.

Although it was predictable at times, the movie does have a surprise ending that will leave you feeling all mushy and happy inside if you’re a girlie girl.  I think a guy could sit through this movie because it has a lot of really funny moments, (Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite is in it) but ultimately it’s a chick flick.

I recommend “Just Like Heaven” as a great ‘I’m sick and want to laugh a bit without thinking too much’ kind of movie.

Here’s IMDB’s synopsis of the movie:

Elizabeth Masterson (Witherspoon) is a dedicated, workaholic doctor who is way to busy for a life. One night, she gets into a horrible car accident and becomes a spirit stuck between heaven and earth. She doesn’t know she’s dead and thinks nothing has happened until she meets David Abbot (Ruffalo), a lonely architect, who rents her old apartment. David thinks he’s crazy by seeing Elizabeth’s spirit and tries all ways to get rid of her, but she just won’t go away. Although the two are complete opposites they somehow may just form a relationship. IMDB

Heh. This movie is actually based on a french bestseller. It has been (abundantly) said that the writer sold the premise to Spielberg with a couple of sentences… for a load of cash!
