"Leatherheads" Preview & Trailer
Two of my favorite actors — George Clooney and Renée Zellweger — are pairing up for “Leatherheads,” a romantic comedy about America’s early pro-football league. The movie is set to hit theaters April 4, 2008.
I’m kind of a nut about romantic comedies, but it’s a challenge for filmmakers to come up with fresh twists on the usual sparring-couple-turned-lovers format. Neither of the scriptwriters on this project — Duncan Brantley and Rick Reilly — have much experience in the film industry, so I hope they can pull it off. Clooney is the director and producer, so bonus points there.
The year is 1925, and Dodge Connolly (Clooney) is a brash football hero determined to get his team out of the bar and into a stadium packed with fans. After the players lose their sponsor, Dodge convinces a college football star to join the struggling team.
More after the jump, including a trailer…
Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski from “The Office“) is a golden-boy war hero who single-handedly forced multiple German soldiers to surrender in WWI. With his good looks and unparalleled speed on the field, this new champ is almost too good to be true.
That’s just what Lexie Littleton (Zellweger) hopes to prove. A cub journalist playing in the big leagues, Lexie is a feisty journalist who suspects there might be a few holes in Carter’s war story. As she digs into the story, both Dodge and Carter vie for her attentions off the field.
