"New Moon" Gets a Director - Chris Weitz

Fans of the “Twilight” series were shocked to learn a few days ago that Catherine Hardwicke would NOT be directing the next installment, “New Moon.”

Now, according to E! News, Chris Weitz is close to signing on to direct “New Moon.” He directed “The Golden Compass,” and while a lot of moviegoers weren’t thrilled with that movie, I loved it (read my review here), especially all the great special effects. That bodes well for “New Moon.” With a bigger budget, it’ll likely include even more special effects than “Twilight.”

A source said that Weitz is “the quality-of-life choice,” probably referring to rumors that Hardwicke was a little rough around the edges to work with. Weitz, on the other hand, is known to be more easy-going.

He also co-directed “American Pie” and scored an Oscar nod for co-writing “About a Boy.”
