Nivola, Oyelowo and Abrahams Join "Chess"
Alessandro Nivola, David Oyelowo and Jon Abrahams have been added to the cast of the upcoming biopic “Chess.” Nivola is currently appearing in “The Eye” but I’ll try not to hold it against him…
The film is about the life of Leonard Chess (Nivola), who helped “jump-start the careers of some of the music industry’s biggest names, including Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Oyelowo will portray Waters, while Abrahams will take on the role of Phil Chess, Leonard’s younger brother who “worries when Leonard becomes involved with a singer who has been signed to their label.”
If you are wondering if this has anything to do with Sony BMG’s upcoming “Cadillac Records” you’re right - this “Chess” will be going up against “Records” which is also about the Chess’ blues label Chess Records. That film stars Adrien Body and Jeffrey Wright.
I try to be fair but I hate when this kind of thing happens. I saw “Capote” but I didn’t see “Infamous.”
