"Poltergeist" Remake Grabs Writers
Juliet Snowden and Stiles White have signed on to write the remake of Poltergeist, the 1982 horror film that made “they’re here…” one of the creepiest things ever uttered by a 6-year-old — kneeling in front of a static-filled TV, to boot.
This is probably one movie I won’t be seeing, so if anyone wants to review it for Film Gecko, let me know! How the original — co-written by Steven Spielberg — ever skirted an R-rating is beyond me. The kids were in constant peril, toy clowns were strangled, faces were peeled, and skeletons…well, you get the drift.
The MGM/UA release grossed $122 million worldwide and earned Oscar noms for its visual effects, sounds effect, and score.
The story follows a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and inhabited by a nasty spook. Adding creepiness is the fact that two of the child actors in the movie died after the film’s release. Yipes!
