Robert Pattinson to play Prince Harry?

Robert Pattinson is rumored to be at the top of the list to play Prince Harry in a new biopic titled “The Spare.” I can see that. For one thing, the movie would have a huge built-in audience with all of the Pattinson and Twilight fans. And he’s British, so no worries on the accent.

On the other hand, the other actor in the running, Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame, actually looks more like the prince. Who would YOU like to see in the role?

New Movie Friday: Fame, Surrogates, Pandorum

surrogates_poster That classic musical “Fame” makes a comeback in theaters this weekend, along with a new Bruce Willis movie. Here’s the rundown:

Fame (PG). This modern update of Alan Parker’s 1980 movie follows a group of students attending the New York School of Performing Arts from audition through graduation.  Stars Irene Cara, Eddie Barth, Kelsey Grammer, Kay Panabaker, and Lee Curreri. Will it be as good as the original? I’ll let you know in 24 hours. [Preview & Trailer] [Official Site]

Surrogates (PG-13). Bruce Willis stars in this thriller about a futuristic world where people live in the comfort of their homes and let surrogates live their lives for them. Also stars Radha Mitchell and Ving Rhames. [Preview & Trailer] [Official Site]

Pandorum (R ). Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid star in this sci-fi flick about two crew members stranded on a spacecraft who quickly realize they’re not alone. That would be creepy enough, but the astronauts awaken from a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft; it’s pitch black, they’re disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the spacecraft. And they can’t remember who they are or what their mission is. This is where we cue the “Twilight Zone” music. [Official Site]

Michael Sheen: It was huge fun doing New Moon

Actor Michael Sheen plays Aro in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," coming out Nov. 20, 2009. He says that it was huge fun doing the movie, the cast is young and gorgeous, and people haven’t started swarming him on the streets - not yet anyway. He should probably be prepared, though, once the movie comes out. Those ancient vampires drive the teens a little crazy.

You can also catch him in several upcoming movies, including Alice in Wonderland (he plays The White Rabbit) and Tron Legacy.”

Fast & Furious helms take on Highlander

Vin Diesel, Justin Lin Summit Entertainment announced last year that they were rebooting “Highlander,” and now the project has a director and producer.

Justin Lin (pictured with Vin Diesel in July, 2009) and Neal Moritz, who directed and produced “Fast & Furious,” respectively, will do the same for Highlander.” Jamie Sonderman had been rumored to be onboard as director.

The original 1986 film starred Sean Connery and followed immortals who battle for supremacy while living seemingly normal lives in the modern world.

There was also a TV series in the 1990s; however, I always thought the storyline was a little hard to follow. Of course, I don’t want them to dumb it down at all, but hopefully, the remake will be a little easier to follow then some of the previous incarnations.

With Summit helming “Highlander,” let’s hope for a hot young cast a la Twilight.”

Death Cab for Cutie signs for New Moon soundtrack

As we get closer to the Nov. 20 release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” we’re getting more details about, well, the details of the movie. Bits and pieces about the soundtrack are coming out this week.

At the VMAs on Sunday, Death Cab for Cutie unveiled their contribution, "Meet Me on the Equinox." The full soundtrack will be announced tomorrow, but we’ve got a few details on the album, due out Oct. 20, 2009.

Music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas told the New York Times she’s confident that the “New Moon” soundtrack would include already rumored tracks from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, indie folker Bon Iver, and British alt-rockers Band of Skulls. Though there have been rumors of songs by the Killers and Grizzly Bear, Patsavas wouldn’t confirm it.

She also said that “New Moon” will blend music and filmmaking a little better than “Twilight.” “This is a much more somber movie than ‘Twilight,’” she said. “There is a lot of love lost, so the artists that are going to make up the soundtrack reflect that longing — a lot of acoustic instruments, a lot of a cappella singing."

MTV News also confirmed on Sunday that Muse were finalists for the "New Moon" soundtrack. Their tune “Supermassive Black Hole” was on the “Twilight” album, so this would be their second association with the franchise.

Any thoughts on this news? Happy, sad, indifferent? I was really hoping for either “Breathe” by Taylor Swift and/or Hannah Pestle’s “Need.”

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - The Full Trailer

The full trailer for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” aired during the Video Music Awards on MTV last night. It was introduced by Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, and they all seemed a little awkward to be onstage introducing the video. You’d think they’d be used to the hype by now, but maybe not. Anyway, here’s the trailer. The movie hits theaters Nov. 20, 2009. As you can tell, it sways towards the Team Taylor side of things.

Want to be a vampire? New Moon gets a virtual world

It was just a matter of time before we’d get to become vampires and werewolves in a virtual world a la “World of Warcraft.”

Habbo, a teen-oriented virtual world site, is teaming up with Summit Entertainment for a “Twilight” world, where users can create customized online characters and connect with other users in a virtual environment.

The site will also include activities, items and polls, and is set for a fall release, just in time for the Nov. 20, 2009 release of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Says Jack Pan, exec VP of marketing for Summit: "Habbo’s understanding of the teen online audience means they can build a unique virtual experience for their users. This is the first time Summit has partnered with a virtual world, so we wanted to be sure to work with a company with a proven track record for providing exciting, engaging activities."

I’m sure it’ll be a huge success. Wish I could grab some of the cash that’s sure to be generated by it!

Can you see yourself getting involved with a site like this, turning yourself into a vampire or werewolf?

New Moon cast to appear on 2009 VMAs

The cast of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner will make an appearance on MTV’s Video Music Awards airing Sept. 13, 2009 at 9 PM ET. They’ll also be debuting an extended trailer for the “Twilight” sequel, which hits theaters Nov. 20, 2009.

So far, the trailers have been pretty fantastic, and I haven’t ventured into “New Moon” overload in any way, shape or form. How about you? Are you excited to see the extended trailer in September, and the movie in November?
