Sequel-icious
As if we don’t have enough series and sequels and prequels running around the film industry nowadays (a quick search for ’sequel’ at IMdB yielded 7000+ titles), there are a new batch of up-and-coming films that make me believe that the true aim of studios is to flog originally successful movies until they’re left whimpering in the back corner of the rental store…discarded and unloved.
I digress.
Here’s what’s on the go…again:
Hustle & Flow 2: Terrence Howard seems pretty sure that there’s going to be a second edition of the critically acclaimed rapper movie. In fact, he says that the script is ready to go and that all the key players will be returning. No word on the director, but filming is apparently starting at the end of 2006.(_)
Rush Hour 3: Newline Cinema has finally closed negotiations and is chomping at the bit to get this one out to fans ASAP. Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, as well as the director (Brett Ratner) and writer (Jeff Nathanson) are all back for another go. Look for this one to hit the summer scene in 2007. (_)
Die Hard 4.0: No seriously, that’s its real name. Bruce is back as action hero god, and the film just may have a new director. You may know Luc Besson by his stylishly entertaining The Fifth Element and rumour has it that he’s set to direct Willis again in the fourth Die Hard. (_)
Mission:Impossible 3: Otherwise known as M:I3 - Cruise Regains Credibility. Some things really are impossible. But if you like Ethan Hunt, and you miss Felicity, you just might like to see Tommy Boy and Keri Russell play with guns. Currently filming for a 2006 release. (_)
