Sundance Film Festival

It’s not every year you turn twenty-five and the Sundance Film Festival plans to do it in style by thanking the patrons that have supports the fest for the past couple decades. On November 22nd, the Sundance Institute will make an 11-disc DVD collection available to the public, containing festival favours spanning the history of this pioneering movie institution.

Ten of the discs will contain films, while the eleventh is composed of interviews and film festival footage. Movies given the nod for the collection are Stephen Soderbergh’s sex, lies and videotape (Audience Award - 1989); Kevin Smith’s Clerks, (Filmmakers Trophy - 1994; Bryan Singer’s The Usual Suspects 1998 Audience Award and Filmmakers Trophy winner Smoke Signals; 1999 Grand Jury Prize winner American Movie; Oscar-winning Boys Don’t Cry - 1999; Todd Field’s In the Bedroom,- 2001 2002 Grand Jury Prize winner Real Women Have Curves; and 2003 Grand Jury Prize winners Capturing the Friedmans and American Splendor,

Robert Redford will provide an introduction for the boxed-set, and as co-founder of the Sundance Institute, should feature prominently in the extra material disc.

The Sundance 2006 festival is scheduled to be held from January 19th-29th in Park City, Utah. You’d probably have better luck trying to book for 2007 at this point, but if you want to attend, you might just luck in to some great seats.
