Superman Returns Rocks!

by Leora Israel Zellman on June 29th, 2006

WOW! I just got back from seeing Superman Returns with my friends Gloria, Ianiv and Arieanna (blogaholics) and my husband Ariel. It was fantastic!

I wasn’t expecting it to be good because of the less than great review Trent gave it, and because when I rewatched the first 2 Superman movies last weekend I was pretty unimpressed.

The story is almot believable as far as comic book movies go, the special effects were awesome, and the acting was fantastic. I especially loved Lois Lane’s kid Jason White played by Tristan Lake Leabu. He was adorable and can really act.

Kate Bosworth’s portrayal of Lois Lane was pretty good, but the closeups of her mismatched eyes (she has one brown and one blue eye…yuck!) was distracting for me.

Brandon Routh did a great job playing Superman. He looked a bit like Christopher Reeve but he played the character so differently. Clark Kent and Superman were less of a joke in this movie than in previous iterations.

I got the feeling that the reason this movie was so much better than Superman and Superman II was because the movie was made by Bryan Singer, a fairly young guy who grew up reading the comic books. He actually took the story seriously unlike others who have made Super movies in the past.

Bryan even identifies with the character exclaiming:

"I identify with Superman. I am adopted, I am an only child, and I love the idea that he comes from another world, that he’s the ultimate immigrant. He has all these extraordinary powers, and he has a righteousness about him." Via IMDB

Finally we can’t forget Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey who were fantastic villians! Posey was great comedic relief but at the same time had a three dimentional character. Kevin Spacey was amazing as always. It seems like most villians from other superhero flicks are fairly cheesy and a Superman film usually has an extra helping of cheese, but Spacey managed to play Lex Luthor without getting moldy. He was really fun to watch!

So take your girlfriends, mother, grandmother, dad, brother, friend and neighbors and go see Superman Returns! It rocked!

I was offended by your judgement of people with different colored eyes. Yuck? Yuck you! Personally, I find it very sexy.
