Isla Fisher, Sacha Baron Cohen at Bruno UK Premiere
June 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
What must it be like being the girlfriend of Sacha Baron Cohen? I wonder if Isla Fisher ever gets tired of his multiple personalities. Or who knows, maybe he’s actually really normal in real life. Word has it they’re both too busy to get married, though they have a baby daughter together, Olive.
But not too busy to promote their respective movies. The two attended the UK premiere of “Bruno,” the freaky comedy starring Cohen as a flamboyant Austrian fashionista who comes to America seeking fame and fortune. Or something.
Here are a few images from the premiere, held at the Empire Leicester Square in London last week.

Interview with Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of Confessions of a Shopaholic
June 17, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I’ve heard people say that the timing of “Confessions of a Shopaholic” isn’t great, what with all of our personal and national economics woes. But as Val Kilmer said in “Tombstone,” I beg to diffah.
“Confessions” is the perfect movie right now, because a lot of us … ahem, not me, of course … are shopaholics, but this movie shows that you can overcome it and learn to curb your spending. At least, that’s what I’m hoping.
Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” says the movie is perfect for our current times.
“It’s a tale of redemption,” he says. “It’s a tale of a girl who is going on a journey, who makes mistakes as most young people do … the credit card companies love sending you credit cards so you exceed your limit and they can charge you interest. And this is a girl who overcomes her problems and figures a way out of her financial crisis, and hopefully the world will do the same thing.”
See? I knew I was right!
Confessions of a Shopaholic DVD Review – Isla Fisher is a new Lucille Ball
June 17, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Movie: Confessions of a Shopaholic * Trailer * Official Site * BuyIt | In Theaters: Feb. 13, 2009; On DVD & Blu-ray: June 23, 2009 |
Runtime: 112 minutes | Directed by: P. J. Hogan |
MPAA Rating: PG for some mild language and thematic elements | Gecko Rating: |
I’m a huge fan of all the Sophie Kinsella books, and "Confessions of a Shopaholic" is based on her book by the same name. It’s about a woman named Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher – pronounced "I-la")) who LOVES to shop.
There are more books in the series, including "Shopaholic Ties the Knot," "Shopaholic & Sister," "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan," and "Shopaholic & Baby," so I’m really, really (picture me in my most persistent voice here) hoping they make more of these movies, with Isla Fisher in the lead role. She’s so sweet and funny, and such a great comedic actress. She’s a Lucille Ball for the new age.

Hugh Dancy (I like to think of him as Darling Hugh Dancy) is currently in theaters in “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” The story pairs him with Isla Fisher, who plays a girl obsessed with shopping.
Based on the “Shopaholic” books by Sophie Kinsella, I loved this movie and wouldn’t mind seeing it again. Read my review here, and check out Hugh’s interview with Paul Byrne of Movies.ie:

"Confessions of a Shopaholic" – International Trailer
February 5, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s the international trailer for "Confessions of a Shopaholic," in theaters next Friday, Feb. 13, 2009. Hmmm, "Friday the 13th" or "Confessions"? Yeah, well, if you’ve been reading Film Gecko for a while, you know I’m not really into the horror movies. But I actually might have to see this one because my 14-year-old son wants to see it, and I want to see if it’s too scary for me, I mean him. Nothing scares him!
Anyway, I digress. Check out this trailer. I think it’s a bit longer than the one I previously posted. Oh, and if you want to see Isla Fisher’s crotch shot on "The Late Show," click here.
Isla Fisher Shares Crotch Photo on The Late Show – VIDEO
February 5, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Now here’s a girl with a sense of humor. Isla Fisher, in theaters next Friday in "Confessions of a Shopaholic," was on "The Late Show" with what has to be one of the worst paparazzi photos out there. It’s a picture of her doing a cartwheel in her swimsuit, crotch out there for all to see. Hey, at least she had a swimsuit on, which is more than I can say for some celebrities. Anyway, Fisher not only doesn’t shy away from it, she blasts it out there for all to see! Of course, David Letterman has fun with it.
"Confessions of a Shopaholic" Preview & Trailer
November 27, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
The “Shopaholic” books by Sophie Kinsella are some of my favorites in recent years. I was overly excited when I heard they were making a movie of the first one, “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” and even moreso when I heard Isla Fisher would be starring. In short, I can’t wait! It’s in theaters Feb. 13, 2009 and is about a woman close to my own heart - a woman who loves to shop. With Jerry Bruckheimer producing and P.J. Hogan directing, it’s got “smash hit” written all over it. Visit the official site, and check out the trailer:
