Land of the Lost Review – CG Effects Steal the Show

June 6, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Movie: Land of the Lost * Trailer * Images * Official Site In Theaters: June 5, 2009
Runtime: 93 minutes Directed by: Brad Silberling
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual content, and for language, including a drug reference Gecko Rating:

If you’ve seen the 1970s series on which “Land of the Lost” is based, you know it’s low-budget and cheesy. The movie has some cool special effects, but overall, the plot tries to re-create the cheesiness of the TV series. It doesn’t really succeed, which is saying something. Or saying nothing, take your pick. Still, the movie has a few moments that click.

Like the TV show, the movie tells what happens when three people are transported to a world of dinosaurs and pod people. Only instead of a scientist and two kids, it’s a scientist and two mismatched adults.

Land of the Lost Clips and Trailer – Will Ferrell gets a python around his neck!

May 25, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

"Land of the Lost" didn’t look that funny to me when I first heard about it. But after seeing a few clips and reading more, it’s growing on me, and now I’m looking forward to it.

It stars Will Ferrell as a washed-up scientist who goes back to the stone age via time machine, along with his research assistant (Anna Friel) and a survivalist (Danny McBride). Of course they get chased by T-Rex’s and other fantastic creatures.

It’s directed by Brad Silberling and rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, and for language including a drug reference. Arrives in theaters June 5, 2009. Read my interview with Michael Papajohn, who plays an astronaut in the movie.

Thanks to MTV for the clips below. Are you looking forward to this movie?

Exclusive: Interview with Michael Papajohn of Terminator Salvation and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

May 12, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Michael Papajohn is one of the hardest working guys in Hollywood, but his road to Tinseltown actually started on the college sports fields. When a stunt job landed in his path, it changed his life forever.

Read on to learn more about Papajohn’s pivotal role in helping Peter Parker become Spider-Man, what it’s like to duke it out with Bruce Willis, and his roles in some of the hottest movies this year, including “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Terminator Salvation,” “Land of the Lost,” “G-Force,” and “Old Dogs.” Oh, and why he just might have to kill me!

Jane: You were drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1985, but chose instead to attend Louisiana State University on a baseball scholarship, playing starting center-fielder on the first LSU team to go to the College World Series in 1986 and 1987. What was it like going from the world of sports to the world of film and TV, doing stunts and acting? “Long strange trip” keeps popping into my head, but you’ve really had an awesome, interesting career.

Michael: I remember when I would make a great defensive play or have a great at bat in baseball, I would get a high. Then when I had an opportunity to do stunts, I got that same high on the set. When I had my first acting class, I was in a scene and the situation my character was in felt so real to me, and I got the same high. Right then, I knew I wanted to be an actor.

There have been some great movie spots during today’s Super Bowl, including "Land of the Lost," a Will Ferrell movie in theaters June 5, 2009.

Ferrell stars as a washed-up scientist who gets sent back to the stone age, along with his research assistant (Anna Friel) and a survivalist (Danny McBride). I’m sure the wacky antics will ensue as they’re chased by T-Rex’s and other Neanderthal creatures. Check it out:
