Review: G-Force (cute rodents with spy gear)
July 27, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Movie: G-Force * Trailer * Nic Cage and Tracy Morgan * Official Site | In Theaters: July 24, 2009 |
Runtime: 89 minutes | Directed by: Hoyt Yeatman; Produced by: Jerry Bruckheimer |
MPAA Rating: PG for some mild action and rude humor | Gecko Rating: |
With producer Jerry Bruckheimer on the job, I expected “G-Force” to be a high-action flick, even though the main characters are computer-generated guinea pigs. When I interviewed Michael Papajohn, who plays an FBI techie in the movie, he said as much: “It’s a Bruckheimer film, so trust me, there will be action.”
Still, “G-Force” struck me as two movies in one. The first half was all about the cute rodents with spy gear. We get to see some character development and watch the pigs infiltrate an “enemy camp” (a hot-shot electronics guy’s digs). The second half, however, picked up the pace and was more of the intense action I expected from Bruckheimer. Car chases and such.

A cute family movie coming up is Jerry Bruckheimer’s “G-Force,” in theaters July 24, 2009. It’s a 3-D comedy adventure about a covert government program that trains animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy gear, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws! Watch the trailer here.
Lots of A-List actors are involved in the movie, including Nicolas Cage and Tracy Morgan, who talk about their roles as Speckles and Blaster. Also, read my interview with Michael Papajohn, who plays an FBI techie, here.

I’m such a sucker for Disney movies with cute talking animals. I hope "G-Force" is as cute as it looks. From producer Jerry Bruckheimer, it’s a 3-D comedy adventure about a covert government program that trains animals for espionage work.
Armed with the latest high-tech spy gear, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws! Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan, Penelope Cruz, and Nicolas Cage provide voices. The movie also stars Bill Nighy, Will Arnett, and Steve Buscemi, and hits theaters July 25, 2009.

Two Images from Astro Boy, in Theaters Oct. 23, 2009

I really don’t have much history with Astro Boy, but the movie looks like a lot of fun! It’s a CGI-animated movie coming to theaters Oct. 23, 2009.
“Astro Boy” began as a Japanese manga series and TV show first broadcast in Japan from 1963 to 1966. The story follows the adventures of a fictional robot named Astro Boy and lots of other fun characters, too.
The movie is set in futuristic Metro City, where Astro Boy (voiced by Freddie Highmore) is a young robot created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma (Nicolas Cage). Powered by positive “blue” energy, Astro Boy has super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed, and the ability to fly.
The young robot goes on a search which eventually leads him back to Metro City to save everything he cares about.
“Astro Boy” also features the voices of Kristen Bell, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, and Eugene Levy.

Lyndsy Fonseca’s star is rising – FAST!
May 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Lyndsy Fonseca has scored a lot of roles in the past few years – Dylan Mayfair on “Desperate Housewives,” Donna on “Big Love,” and the daughter on “How I Met Your Mother,” to name a few.
Her star is definitely rising, because she just completed “Kick-Ass” with Nicolas Cage and booked a part in “Hot Tub Time Machine.” It’s a comedy in which she plays Jenny, a girlfriend who slipped away from John Cusack’s character in 1987. Only he revisits her when he and some friends travel back in time via their Jacuzzi. Yes, their Jacuzzi!
It’s scheduled for a February 2010 release, and also stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Lizzy Caplan.
Fonseca also stars alongside Drake Bell in the CBS comedy pilot “The Fish Tank.”
Whew … and I thought MY life was busy!

Nicolas Cage talks Knowing, religion – VIDEO
March 29, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I’ve been posting Paul Byrne’s interviews with Movies.ie for a while now, and if you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a big fan. I’m convinced that Paul must take his interviewees through some yoga moves first, because they always seem so thoughtful and meditative.
Nicolas Cage is usually pretty thoughtful in interviews anyway, and he and Paul sat down and discussed his new movie "Knowing," religion, changing his last name, and everything in between.

One of my favorite shows this year is “Damages.” It’s in its second season (only one episode left), but I just came to the series this year, and it’s fantastic. Rose Byrne, who stars with Glenn Close in “Damages” and Nicolas Cage in “Knowing,” sat down with Movies.ie and talked about everything. Check it out below. Anyone else watch “Damages”?

Knowing - Preview & Trailer
March 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I haven’t been that intrigued by Nicolas Cage’s recent movies. Well, I’ve liked his “National Treasure” movies because they’re just good clean fun. But I wasn’t that crazy about “Bangkok Dangerous.” But “Knowing” looks like it could be good.
In “Knowing,” Rose Byrne plays the daughter of a woman who buried a 1962 time capsule, along with the dates of the assassinations of historical figures, the hotel fire death of the wife of a professor (Cage) and an imminent world apocalypse. After the professor discovers its contents and alerts her, the skeptical Byrne begins remembering strange incidents from her childhood.
Directed by Alex Proyas, “Knowing” hits theaters this Friday, March 20, 2009. It’s rated PG-13 for disaster sequences, disturbing images and brief strong language. Check out the trailer:
