Iron Man 2 stirs up Comic-Con

July 28, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

We’ve all been patiently – ok, impatiently – awaiting “Iron Man 2,” which hits theaters May 7, 2010. The cast and crew were on hand at Comic-Con this past weekend to stir up a little buzz.
Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, said she kicks some “major ass,” and director Jon Favreau says don’t expect to see a cliffhanger, because this film will be self-contained. Don Cheadle’s long-awaited “War Machine” also makes an appearance, and Sam Rockwell talks about his character, Justin Hammer.
Check out the clips from MTV. Are you excited about “Iron Man 2”?

Review: G-Force (cute rodents with spy gear)

July 27, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Movie: G-Force * Trailer * Nic Cage and Tracy Morgan * Official Site
In Theaters: July 24, 2009

Runtime: 89 minutes
Directed by: Hoyt Yeatman; Produced by: Jerry Bruckheimer

MPAA Rating: PG for some mild action and rude humor
Gecko Rating:

With producer Jerry Bruckheimer on the job, I expected “G-Force” to be a high-action flick, even though the main characters are computer-generated guinea pigs. When I interviewed Michael Papajohn, who plays an FBI techie in the movie, he said as much: “It’s a Bruckheimer film, so trust me, there will be action.”
Still, “G-Force” struck me as two movies in one. The first half was …read more

Review: Moon (a sci-fi not unlike 2001: A Space Odyssey)

July 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Movie: Moon * Official Site
In Theaters: June 12, 2009 (limited)

Runtime: 97 minutes
Directed by: Duncan Jones

MPAA Rating: R for language
Gecko Rating:

I haven’t heard much about “Moon,” but it’s been on the film festival circuit this year and won Best New British Feature at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. It features Sam Rockwell (pictured) in the lead, so that was enough to make me go see it at our restored downtown State Theater here in Traverse City, Michigan.
I took my budding filmmaker almost-15-year-old son. Even though it’s rated R, it’s mainly for language, which he and I are …read more

Moon’s Duncan Jones at the Tribeca Film Festival

June 14, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

The film "Moon" is out in limited release this week, but has been on the film festival circuit since January. Just the title alone wouldn’t make me go see this movie, but after reading more about it and watching clips, I’m definitely interested. If I don’t see it beforehand, maybe it’ll play at the Traverse City Film Festival in August.
It’s directed and written by Duncan Jones, son of the legendary David Bowie, and follows an astronaut (Sam Rockwell) who pursues his own departure from a futuristic lunar mining base. "Moon" is rated R for language, and also stars Kevin …read more

Mickey Rourke in for "Iron Man 2"?

January 8, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Ok, every time I see a picture of Mickey Rourke, I do a double-take. That’s him, pictured with Evan Rachel Wood.
I was talking to someone today, who brought up the idea that Mickey Rourke isn’t so much of an actor as he is someone who can bulk up or slim down for a role. Because – and I haven’t seen "The Wrestler" yet – but apparently he bulked up for the role and this person thought maybe he just did that really well, and that’s why he’s getting Oscar buzz.
Anyway, this news is even weirder, because The …read more

"G-Force" – Official Trailer

January 1, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

By the name, "G-Force" sounds like an action-thriller with lots of car chases and gunfire. In reality, it’s a cute Disney movie with adorable little creatures. But still a thriller!
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer, "G-Force" is a 3-D comedy adventure about a covert government program to train animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy gear, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws! Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan, Penelope Cruz, and Nicolas Cage provide voices. Fun!
Directed by Hoyt Yeatman, this movie also stars Bill Nighy, Will Arnett, and Steve …read more
