The Longest Yard

Think this is an Adam Sandler movie? Not so much.

Adam is the star. No doubt about it. But this movie is only enjoyable because of the rest of the cast. There are so many atheletes in this movie that it is fun to watch just to spot them. There’s Bill Romanowski playing a prison guard/Linebacker, Michael Irving plays a prison inmate and Wide Receiver, while “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Kevin Nash, and Goldberg make appearances from the pro-wrestling sphere. There’s also an Ultimate fighter whose size, coupled with the knowledge that he could kill you with one educated punch, makes him one of the scariest actors.

Rounding out the main characters are Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds, and rapper Nelly.

If you are a big sports fan, or big Adam Sandler fan, this might be a good rental for you. Otherwise, there’s not much going on. You would do better to rent the Burt Reynolds original, or the British Remake with Vinnie Jones called simply “Mean Machine” where they play soccer.
