The Original Village of the Damned

by Leora Israel Zellman on February 21st, 2006

Village of the Damned / Children of the Damned

A few nights back my husband went to rent “Village of the Damned” thinking he was getting the one with Christopher Reeve, but accidentally rented the original 1960s version.

I have to admit that I’m somewhat of a color snob and usually don’t like watching black and white movies, but this one was SO funny!  I know it’s supposed to be creepy and scary, but it was just SO 60s…It’s really good and maybe if I hadn’t seen the newer version (which is EXTREMELY Creepy!) you might not laugh at it as much as I did.  Anyway, this one is a must see in both the old and new versions.  It’s about these creepy children with powers…

I think I might go over to Amazon right now and buy the movie set of Village of the Damned and Children of the Damned (the sequel) because it’s just such a damned good deal at $12.99.  Check out this description from IMDB:

In the small English village of Midwich everybody and everything falls into a deep, mysterious sleep for several hours in the middle of the day. Some months later every woman capable of child-bearing is pregnant and the children that are born out of these pregnancies seem to grow very fast and they all have the same blond hair and strange, penetrating eyes that make people do things they don’t want to do.
