The X-Files Movie: Title and Pics!
Director and co-writer Chris Carter has finally revealed the title for the new “X-Files” movie: The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The movie hits theaters July 25, 2008.
It’s a familiar phrase for fans of the TV series that ran from 1993 - 2002. Even if you were visiting another planet during that time, you know the popular sci-fi series starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents chasing down aliens and supernatural happenings.
Ok, and here’s the title origin: “I Want to Believe” was the phrase on a poster in UFO-crazed Fox Mulder’s basement office where he and Dana Scully worked.
“It’s a natural title,” Carter told the Associated Press. “It’s a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. ‘I Want to Believe.’ It really does suggest Mulder’s struggle with his faith.”
More after the jump, including movie stills…
Carter already knew the title when he and co-writer Frank Spotnitz started working on the screenplay, but studio execs wanted to make sure it would be marketable before going public.
I guess it’s ok. For me, it has some religious connotations, and I’m not sure that’s such a good thing for the demographic of this movie. And I even watched the series, so I’m not clueless about The X-Files or anything.
What do you think? Like the title? Hate it? No opinion?
