Tobey Maguire Options "Marry Him!"

As a journalist and blogger, I’m always giddy when cool things happen as the result of articles — especially long narrative articles, which are becoming something of an endangered species.
Atlantic Monthly ran an article by Lori Gottlieb titled “Marry Him!: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough.” Now the rights to this article, as well as Gottlieb’s forthcoming book based on the article, have been optioned by Tobey Maguire and his Maguire Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gottlieb, a single mom who conceived with donor sperm, suggested in her piece that “settling” might actually make a woman happier in the long run, because…
…many marriages begin with high expectations which are slowly dashed through the years.
Since hitting newsstands in the March issue, “Marry Him!” has garnered national and international attention, and Gottlieb — an NPR commentator and best-selling author of the memoir “Stick Figure: A Diary of My Former Self” — has found herself on assorted TV shows, radio shows, and newstands, including Today, The Colbert Report, Talk of the Nation and in the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe and the Wall Street Journal.
The book, whose rights were sold to Dutton for mid-six figures, will be titled “Marry Him: Finding Mr. Real.”
As for Maguire, he’s been on a bit of a tear recently, with “Marry” the third deal he’s made in the past two weeks alone. In development is The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, a spec script by Robert Tannen, and comic book adaptation Afterburn, which is being produced by Neal Moritz for Relativity Media.
Maguire next stars in Jim Sheridan’s Brothers with Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.
