Whale Rider Knocked Up at 16
I don’t want to insult anyone but I just think teenage pregnancy is dumb especially if you’re a celebrity! What was Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes thinking? What about all the little girls who look up to her after seeing her in Whale Rider? Also People magazine should be ashamed of themselves for reporting the story as they would any other Hollywood star’s pregnancy. I mean, hello, Keisha is 16! This is not something I’d want my kids finding out about in a positive way! People goes on to say that the couple has been dating for 3 years. Can you even call a 13 year old’s relationships dating?
Whale Rider star Keisha Castle-Hughes, 16, and her boyfriend, Bradley Hull, 19, are expecting their first child this spring, her rep tells PEOPLE. The two have been dating for three years.
The actress first made waves playing the fiery Paikea in 2002’s Whale Rider – a role for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination. At 13, she was the youngest Best Actress nominee in history.
"I thought I was still dreaming," she told PEOPLE about the honor at the time.
Since Whale Rider, Castle-Hughes has taken few roles, though she did play the Queen of Naboo in 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and will appear as Mary in the upcoming movie The Nativity Story co-starring Shohreh Aghdashloo.
The Australia-born actress grew up and still lives in New Zealand and – like her character in Whale Rider – is part Maori.

Obviously it’s not an ideal situation, but life is full of situations which aren’t ideal, so I suggest people get off their high horses at least until they can honestly say they’re perfect. Let’s face it - she may be young, but she’s wealthy and has lots of support, so I doubt she, her baby or even her career are going to suffer. There are far worse things she could’ve done (drug habit or Hayley Joel Osment-inspired DUI, anyone?).

I agree that people nead to back off. Leave the girl alone because a baby is a gift and yes she is young , but she’s not the first teen to get pregnant. Also she can suport this child as far as money goes, alot better than most of us can, so shut up and leave her be!

okay okay… to start with, just because shes famous doesnt make her any diffrent from other teens. in this day and age its odd to be a virgin even at the age of thirteen or twelve. so tell me why she has to live her life as if one mistake will make it crash down on her?
sure, fame means there are more people to see every mistake you make, but she is the same age that I am and I say that if she is happy with her choices, we should back off and be happy for her. our critisizim towards her does nothing more than come back to us and the society that we live in. I say to leave her alone and if anything, prais her for her strength in such hard times to smile upon her child.
